VANESSA-MAE's VIDEO CLIPS
IN REVIEW PART 3
During her career so far, Vanessa-Mae made 14 video clips. Some of these clips were used only as promotional material, others were available as bonus VCD to regular releases of the albums. The tittles of the video clips are listed below.
Devil's Trill (1998)
This is a nice and glamorous video clip with artistic
filming of Vanessa-Mae in an artic winter landscape full of water, ice and
icicles (captures 1-5 and 11-17). Vanessa-Mae is shown in two outfits. In the first one, Vanessa-Mae is
presented wearing a blue-silver luxurious gala dress (captures 2, 520 and 21) and she is decorated with
all attributes an expensive party girl would have with (captures 7 and 8) of course, really a lot of make-up
with covering crème, powder and eye shadow up to her brows that matches her
dress in colours and tones, with glitters in the heavy black mascara on her lashes,
soft red lipstick finishes Vanessa-Mae's party make-up. Remarkable and
very nice is the ornament in the cavity on top of the breastbone (captures 2 and
3). The second
outfit shows Vanessa-Mae as tempting girl in an adventurous outfit with black
sleeveless T-shirt and black pair of trousers and a white broad belt (captures 4
and 6).
Here, Vanessa-Mae has no jewelleries but her face is done with heavy make-up of
a pale toned
toned foundation that sharply contrasts the deep red lipstick and smouldering eye make-up of black liner
and mascara, dark shadow on her upper lids that fades to lighter colours up to
her brows (captures 6 and 9-10). To complete the adventure look, Vanessa-Mae wears a black cowboy hat
on her straight long black hair (captures 6 and 10). The glamour Vanessa-Mae plays the acoustic
violin (captures 5, 7, 12 and 19-21) and the adventurous Vanessa-Mae the electric violin
(captures 6, 11 and 18) .
The clip starts with a joke. Glamour Vanessa-Mae bows to the audience after her performance in retrospect (captures 2 and 3). At the end, this scene comes back but then shown in correct chronology (captures 24 and 25). Then, the adventurous Vanessa-Mae comes in flying in the sky while standing on a cloud made of stone and ice (capture 1). Then both Vanessa-Mae's are shown playing the violins in the winter landscape between water, ice and icicles (captures 5, 11 and 12). During the intermezzo in the song when the violin silences, adventurous Vanessa-Mae flies in the sky standing on the acoustic violin in an acrobatic poses (capture 15). During this part, the glamour Vanessa-Mae, sitting and standing in the winter landscape looks up into the sky and sees the adventurous Vanessa-Mae doing her acrobatics (captures 16 and 17). Also, glamorous Vanessa-Mae stands up straight in a funny pose swaying her wonderful long black hair around her body (captures 13 and 14). At the end, glamorous Vanessa-Mae bows to the audience again holding her violin in her hands (captures 24 and 25).
Reflection (1998)
This is a beautiful and very sweet video clip for Vanessa-Mae's instrumental
rendition of 'Reflection' that is music for the animated Disney movie 'Mulan.'
The clip shows a wonderful and absolute gorgeous Vanessa-Mae playing the music
while walking in a Chinese style garden alongside the waterfront (captures 1, 6
and 7), completed with
an arched bridge of stone (capture 10) and luxuriant vegetation of flowers, trees and smaller
plants (captures 1. 6, 8-11). Vanessa-Mae is dressed in a red sleeveless T-shirt with asymmetrical
V-neck to her right shoulder (capture 8 and 9) and black spotted panther print design, and a black
pants with her calf's exposed and red cuffs (captures 10). She has discrete soft blush
on her cheeks in her pale toned visage with lips matching the colour of her
blouse and black nicely accentuating her lashes (captures 2 and 3).
In the clip, shots of Vanessa-Mae in the garden are varied with scenes from the animated movie. Vanessa-Mae is also shown exercising martial arts (captures 14-16) to imitate the brave and very young girl Mulan as main character in the movie (captures 3-4, 12-13 and 17-180.
In summary, 'Reflection' is a nicely designed video clip that goes well with the sweet music.

Power of C (2000)
The video clip adequately gives an impression of the dynamic and high
technical environment in which fully automated robotic systems (capture 2) are used to
manufacture today's modern automobiles. Vanessa-Mae wrote her version and
arrangement of Prokofiev's 'Dance Of The Knights,' that is part of his famous
ballet 'Romeo And Juliet,' for the promotion campaign of the new Mercedes C
model. In a very cleverly designed video that was shot inside a Mercedes plant
(capture 2, 6, 9-10),
Vanessa-Mae plays the music on electric violin alternately dressed in her finest
gowns in colours varying from red (capture 9), blue (capture 6), green (capture
10), black (capture 7) and gold for an
sophisticated evening gown (capture 16), or in black pants and a nice green top that freely
hangs on her shoulders (capture 3 and 4), or with a fine blue Chinese style silk blouse and
sunglasses (captures 12 and 15). In one scene, Vanessa-Mae runs in the garage wearing a sophisticated
golden evening gown (capture 16). The scenes with Vanessa-Mae are varied with shots of the
new Mercedes model in various stages of the production process (captures 2, 6
and 7) and one that
drives over the roads in the mountains or in a city (captures 13-14 and 17).
All in all, this video combines the beauty, style, personality, skills, energy and dynamics of Vanessa-Mae with the high technical standards and classy profile of the new Mercedes model. This video links Vanessa-Mae with the Mercedes C model to form a perfect match and combination in our modern times.

Destiny
The video clip for Destiny is brilliant in translating the dynamics of the
song into images and is wonderfully designed. The clip opens with Vanessa-Mae
dressed in an all leather black outfit consisting of a very short dress with
long spaghetti strings alongside her legs and a top of black leather bands
wrapped around her upper body (capture 1). Vanessa-Mae sings the vocal intro standing in
between dancers (captures 1, 2 and 4-6). The clip interweaves two scenes with each other. The first
shows Vanessa-Mae in her leather outfit participating in a dance with acrobatics
when the dancers swirl around her while playing her acrylic violin (captures
4-5) or when she
is lifted in all kind of spectacular looking poses by the dancers (captures
10-12). The second
scene shows Vanessa-Mae standing on a round small platform playing her acrylic
violin (captures 8-9). The camera rotates around the platform while filming the playing
Vanessa-Mae with the dance scene shown on a screen in the background (captures
14, 18-24). For this
2nd scene, Vanessa-Mae wears a superb multi coloured satin long dress with
spaghetti straps (captures 8, 18, 20-21) and fine shoes with very high spike heels
(capture 24). Close-ups reveal
once more the meticulous care that has been done on Vanessa-Mae's facewear
(captures 13-16).
The rotating camera set up and the spectacular dance act give the clip a speed that is very appropriate for the dynamics of Destiny with a gorgeous looking Vanessa-Mae in the leading role.
White Bird
Although Vanessa-Mae specifically claimed that the song White Bird must not
been seen as being autobiographic, the clip symbolises much of her caged life
from her early youth being a child prodigy till the arrived and high profile
musician she is today, of a living through tight schedules of practising,
recording, doing promotion and interviews, and perform in live concerts all over
the world.
The scene for the clip is a cage placed in the Arizona desserts where the clip was shot. The clip opens with Vanessa-Mae wearing a fine black dress sitting in a cage against the dessert background (capture 1). Throughout the clip, the skies with clouds were modified to create a mood of depression (captures 1, 5, 10-13) - dark light with dark clouds - or as contrast optimism and joy - bright blue skies with white clouds (captures 6 and 9)! Symbolically, Vanessa-Mae gives a white Bird freedom to fly away and seek its own Destiny (captures 18-20) - self determination. In this, an analogy with Vanessa-Mae claiming her own independency form her mother comes into mind.
The clip is a beautiful and successful attempt to visualise the analogy between Vanessa-Mae and The White bird, both claiming freedom and independency to seek their own fate and future.
Francis Elena
The video clip for Vanessa-Mae's collaboration with Takuro 'Francis Elena'
is an artistic design showing a unknown woman swimming and diving in a pool of
water (captures 1, 5 and 6) against the soft music of the song as background. Vanessa-Mae
(captures 2-3)and Takuro (capture 2)
are only briefly shown in black images in the background a few times during the
video. The video is not spectacular but flows quietly like the music.

Sabre Dance
Vanessa-Mae's spectacular performance as the opening act for the Classical
Brit Awards of 2004 forms the scene for the video clip and marked the beginning
for the promotion for the release of her debut album 'Choreography' on the Sony
label. Vanessa-Mae appeared on stage wearing a fantastic gala dress (captures
3-4-7) that was
especially designed for her, her long black hair pulled from her face and tied
together in twines on her back (captures 5, 8 and 10) so that her heavy make-up with impeccable
foundation crème, brown eye shadow and lots of black mascara completed with
glossy bright red painted lips was expressed fully (capture 11). Vanessa-Mae brought
everyone, especially her many fans to ecstasy with her spectacular and glamorous
appearance. The captures below sequentially show the opening shot of the
roof of the Royal Albert Hall; Vanessa-Mae playing the intro notes against an
image of the moon (capture 2); Vanessa-Mae being led to the stage after she finished the
intro of the song (capture 3); playing surrounded by dancers (capture 6); making her final pose when the
close-up show details of the fantastic looking make-up enhancing the beauty her
finely chiselled features (capture 11).
